Join us on August 3, 2016 in Downtown Waterville for the Taste of Waterville. This year’s event will feature live entertainment, children’s events, amazing food from our local restaurants, a beer garden with live bands, gymnastics and dance demonstrations and a business vendor section. Every year we close down Main Street and host a family friendly event. There is always something for everyone.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers.
Best in Show – Maine General Health
This year’s Best in Show goes to MaineGeneral Health for it’s all around presentation. The colorful menu options appealed to those seeking a healthy alternative especially with the beautiful Messe Plate of hummus, fresh mozzarella, fresh vegetables, nuts and tabouli.
Best Sandwich/Wrap – Selah Tea
– Street Tacos
The Street Tacos from Selah Tea had simple flavors that were garnished with fresh lime and pico de gallo. The homemade avocado cream added just the right flavor and left a memorable impression. Also appreciated was the idea that these tacos were great street food and could easily have been eaten as people walked down Main St.
Best Entrée – The Endzone – Souvlaki
The option of three different kinds of Souvlaki (chicken, pork, and lamb) was a welcome treat. All were very well seasoned making it hard to choose the best of the three. The tzatziki sauce, with cucumbers and dill, that accompanied the skewers, was a favorite that complemented the spice of the meat and left the judges wanting more.
Best Beverage – Jewel of India – Mango Lassi
The yogurt-based Mango Lassi was such a delight that a new category of awards had to be established! The light and refreshing sip put a smile on the judges’ faces and deliciously offset the spice of the rest of the entrée.
Best Booth – Mainely Brews
Mainely Brews once again had a beautifully decorated booth. The wide variety of brightly colored fresh flowers provided by Pierce’s Greenhouse, both hanging and positioned on hay bales, gave a fresh atmosphere. The edible arrangements with tomato plants, pepper plants and herbs were a favorite. The effort that Mainely Brews puts in to have a special presentation is very much appreciated.
Best Salad/Appetizer/Soup – Mainely Brews – Lobster Stew
The Lobster Stew from Mainely Brews never disappoints. Large chunks of sweet Maine lobster filled the creamy, buttery stew. The broth had just the right amount of seasoning to not overpower the delicious lobster. This bowl was both a delight to look at and devour.
Best Dessert – Parsonage House
– Bread Pudding
Many outstanding desserts were available for sampling leaving the judges with a difficult decision. The Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce was the sweet dish that was most memorable. It was served warm and had a delicious buttery/caramel flavor made this dessert stand out. The bourbon sauce gave a new spin to an old fashioned favorite.
